says ‘home-cooked comfort’ like a sizzling plate of Bife à Casa – because why choose between steak, fries, and a fried egg when you can have all three?
Ingredients:
For the Steak Marinade:
- 2 beef steaks (thinly sliced)
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
- Garlic powder (to taste)
- Pimenta moída (Portuguese ground red pepper, to taste)
For Cooking:
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for searing)
For the Wine Reduction:
- 4 cloves of garlic, skin on
- 2 bay leaf
- ½ cup red wine
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp mustard
Double ingredients for extra molho
Instructions:
- Marinate the Steak:
- Season steaks with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and pimenta moída.
- Let marinate for at least 30 minutes (or longer for deeper flavour).
- Sear the Steak:
- Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
- Sear the steaks until browned on both sides and to desired temperature.
- Make the Wine Reduction:
- In the same pan, add butter, garlic, bay leaf and pour in the red wine, scraping up any bits from the pan.
- Let it reduce slightly, then whisk in mustard. Stir until smooth.
- Combine & Serve:
- Return steaks to the pan, coat in the sauce, and let them soak up the flavours for a minute.
- Serve with a fried egg on top and fries on the side.
