Prego no Pão with Porto Caramelized Onions & a Fried Egg 🇵🇹🔥

This Portuguese steak sandwich is already a classic, but let me introduce you to the real star of the show—Porto caramelized onions. These onions take any sandwich to the next level, and trust me, you’ll want to put them on everything!

Ingredients:

🔥 Porto Caramelized Onions:
• 1 onion (I used half red, half white—because that’s what was in my fridge!)
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp butter
• 1/2 tsp sugar
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1/4 cup Porto wine

🥩 Steak:
• 2 strip loin steaks (fast-frying)
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
• 1/2 tsp onion powder
• 1/2 tsp garlic powder
• 1/2 tsp paprika
• 1 bay leaf
• 1 tbsp pimenta
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

🍞 Other:
• Portuguese bun
• 1 fried egg (because why not?)

How to Make It:

1️⃣ Caramelize the Onions – Slice the onions and sauté with olive oil, butter, sugar, and salt until soft and golden. Once they reach the perfect consistency, pour in Porto wine and let it reduce until thick and glossy. These onions are juicy, flavourful, and absolute perfection.

2️⃣ Marinate & Sear the Steak – Mix the seasonings, pimenta, Worcestershire sauce, and bay leaf with the steaks. Sear on high heat for 1-1.5 minutes per side for a perfect crust while keeping them tender inside.

3️⃣ Assemble – Toast the Portuguese bun, layer on the steak, pile on the Porto caramelized onions, and top with a juicy fried egg. Or just eat the onions straight from the pan—I won’t judge.

The last clip in my video shows the sandwich with just the onions, and honestly? That alone is a must-try. Add these Porto caramelized onions to all your sandwiches from now on—you won’t regret it!
