If you’ve been on TikTok lately, chances are you’ve come across the Viral Dirty Pasta Recipe that’s taken over everyone’s feed. After seeing it over and over again, I knew I had to give it a try. Like most recipes I make, I couldn’t help but put my own spin on it using ingredients I already had in my kitchen.
Instead of celery, I used fresh leeks, which added a subtle sweetness that paired beautifully with the beef. Don’t worry though, if celery is what you have on hand, it works perfectly too! I also swapped out the chili powder for paprika and garlic powder, giving this pasta a rich, savoury flavour that’s mild enough for the whole family to enjoy.
As a busy mom, I’m always looking for meals that are hearty, easy to make, and don’t leave me with a sink full of dishes. This one pot pasta checks every box. It’s loaded with flavour, comes together in under an hour, and makes fantastic leftovers for lunch the next day.
Whether you’re making this for a busy weeknight, meal prepping for the week, or feeding a hungry crowd, this recipe is guaranteed to become a new family favourite.

🥩 Ingredients You’ll Need
1 lb lean ground beef
1 lb mild Italian sausage (optional, I did not use)
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 leeks, diced (or 1 stalks celery)
1 yellow onion, diced
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoon tomato paste
4 tablespoon all-purpose flour
4 cups beef broth
Up to 1 cup water, if needed
1 lb penne or spaghetti, broken in half
1 chopped green onion (optional)
shredded cheese (optional)
Seasonings
1½ teaspoon onion powder
1½ teaspoon paprika
1½ teaspoon garlic powder
1½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper, to taste
🌿 Ingredient Notes
🧅 Leeks or Celery
I chose leeks because that’s what I had in my fridge, and they added a mild sweetness that worked so well in this dish. Celery is the traditional choice and tastes just as delicious.
🌶 Paprika & Garlic Powder
Instead of chili powder, I used paprika and garlic powder to create a savoury flavour that’s slightly milder and kid-approved while still adding plenty of depth.
🍝 Pasta
I used penne pasta because again it was what I had on hand but spaghetti works great! Breaking the spaghetti in half helps it cook evenly and makes serving much easier.

7️⃣ Add pasta and stir it into the broth.
8️⃣ Cover and simmer for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the pasta is tender.
